... "Politics is the most important area of public policy in the world. In Singapore, we have been fortunate in having someone like Lee Kuan Yew rule us, with his able lieutenants. But what about political opposition? In Singapore, Opposition personalities fascinate me more than the ideology of opposition politics. In its 50 years as a nation, the Opposition has not been able to throw up a party that can form a government. All the same, opposition politicians intrigue me: The extremes of JB Jeyaretnam, the courage of Chiam See Tong, the Shakespeare-quoting political exile Francis Seow. They are mentioned in this book. And so are mentioned too, equally intriguing, Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his successor, the gentle Goh Chok Tong whom I had the privilege of knowing.

Australian soprano Amanda Colliver sang in this one-woman piece, which Chou Tou Liang, The Straits Times music critic, described as ‘a tour-de-force...Kannagi is truly a worthy effort.... The long-awaited Fences should be a spectacle to behold.’ Fences was staged in 2012 to excellent critical reviews.
