Taking Centrestage. Singapore Youth Orchestra 1990-2002

This book celebrates the 45th anniversary of the Singapore Youth Orchestra (SYO), now known as the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO).
SYO founding conductor Vivien Goh believes in the value of documenting stories and fleshing out a very important part of Singapore's culturaral history through voices that go beyond official narratives.
Here are stories of SYO alumni who remember their orchestra training, the exact words said in rehearsals, and who passed on those lessons to their students. Here are alumni who were given opportunities to shine, whose life paths were changed by thoughtful advice, and who remember how they felt encouraged or inspired by various conductors, managers, tutors, and others.
SYO has soared as an institution. But it is really the thousands of little interactions, in the exchanges that happened during rehearsals or while on tour, that have made all the difference.
