Star-Grazing. New and Selected Poems
Star-Grazing contains poems of vulnerability and seeking, finding in
the larger mysteries what shapes us all: nature’s light, beholding an
artist’s masterpiece, even what is said in silence. As a pilgrim poet,
Lee’s lifelong search for identity and sense of place is documented in
these pages, his poems drawing on diverse influences: the people he
loves, travel, Japanese aesthetics, Southeast Asian poetic traditions,
contemplative spirituality, and great art.
Throughout this book, Nature serves as mirror and teacher, while
the spiritual is the connective tissue that binds personal experience
to the transcendent. Yet Lee’s poetry is free from didacticism. In his
creative world, paradox is his native language, and he trusts his readers
completely. Star-Grazing is an invitation to slow down, notice, and
recognise ourselves in the spaces between words.
